The sensual and humorous French film 'Gemma Bovery,' in which a baker intertwines his own fantasies with reality, will premiere on Saturday, July 11th, at Cine Switch Ginza and other theaters.

'Gemma Bovery,' which depicts an ordinary baker who superimposes the world of Gustave Flaubert's masterpiece 'Madame Bovary' onto his beautiful neighbor, Gemma Bovary, is based on the comic of the same name by British picture book author Posy Simmonds. This much-talked-about film, which held the number one spot at the French box office for four consecutive weeks, is now being released.

The film was directed by Anne Fontaine, a former actress whose 'Dry Cleaning' (1997) won the Best Screenplay award at the Venice International Film Festival, among other accolades.Director Anne FontaineShe has created a work that feels like an adult fantasy, set against the idyllic backdrop of Normandy.

The cast features the acclaimed actor Fabrice Luchini, a six-time César Award winner, as the protagonist baker Martin, showcasing his exceptional sense of humor. British actress Gemma Arterton, who was chosen as a Bond girl in 'Quantum of Solace,' delivers a superb performance in French, embodying the unique world where the novel and reality intertwine.

Martin, the Baker Who Superimposes the Novel 'Madame Bovary' onto His Neighbor



Martin, a literature enthusiast who returned to his hometown of Normandy to take over his father's bakery, has one hobby: immersing himself in the novel 'Madame Bovary.'

One day, while living a peaceful life with his wife and children, a British couple moves in next door. The wife's name is none other than Gemma "Bovary." While captivated by the young and attractive Gemma, Martin gradually begins to superimpose her onto Emma Bovary from the novel.

However, the novel's ending sees Madame Bovary driven to despair by an affair and debt, ultimately committing suicide by poison. Martin takes action to prevent Gemma from meeting a similarly tragic fate, but...

The air of Normandy, the fragrant aroma of freshly baked bread, and the vibrant, modern-day Madame Bovary. A story with wit, crafted for adults, is arriving in Japan.
