Standard Equipment Includes "Laser Light," Offering Twice the Illumination Range of LED Headlights
This is the seventh special limited edition model released to commemorate BMW's 100th anniversary, following a series of announcements. The "i8 Celebration Edition Protonic Red" marks this milestone.
Launched in September 2014, thei8utilizes plug-in hybrid technology, combining a 1.5-liter inline three-cylinder turbo engine with an electric motor. The system delivers a maximum output of 266 kW (362 ps) and a peak torque of 570 Nm, achieving fuel efficiency and low emissions comparable to a compact car, despite its sports car performance.
Like the EVi3, it is also characterized by its pioneering use of CFRP (carbon fiber-reinforced plastic) as its basic structural material in a mass-produced vehicle.
This special limited edition model introduces "Protonic Red," a dedicated red body color, for the first time in the BMW i series. It is stylishly complemented by dedicated 20-inch alloy wheels in a gray finish. Furthermore, it comes standard with "Laser Light," which offers twice the illumination range of LED headlights.
The interior features a black base accented with red. It also includes dedicated door sill plates bearing the edition name and a special interior badge with a serial number.
Only 10 units will be available, priced at 22 million yen, approximately 2.35 million yen higher than the base model.
