For 2019, Blancpain has unveiled the "Fifty Fathoms Barracuda," a dive watch produced in a limited run of 500 pieces.

The "Fifty Fathoms," born in 1953, was designed to meet the stringent requirements of professional divers and was adopted by naval special forces, including those of France.

In the late 1960s, the "Fifty Fathoms" was supplied to the German Navy through Barracuda, a company specializing in the manufacture and marketing of diving equipment. The civilian model subsequently introduced by the company to the German market featured bi-colored rectangular indices and hands coated with white luminous material. A highly legible date display at 3 o'clock added to its appeal, making it immensely popular among divers of the era.

The newly released limited edition of 500 "Fifty Fathoms Barracuda" pieces reinterprets this late 1960s timepiece. The red and white indices on the black dial are coated with Old Radium Super-LumiNova®, while the pencil-shaped hour and minute hands are lacquered in white.

Blancpain has enhanced this vintage aesthetic by adding the brand's signature unidirectional rotating bezel, first introduced in 2003. The accompanying tropical rubber strap is identical to that of the original model.
