Her Style is Worth Copying
Elisa Fuksas, a rising star in Italy, makes her directorial debut with "Nina - Summer in Rome." The film, by a female director born in 1981, masterfully captures the complex feelings of women her age who "want to do something, but don't know what."
Her father, the world-renowned architect Massimiliano Fuksas, known for designing the Armani Ginza Tower, has passed down his talent to her, which she fully unleashes in this work. Her stylish and fantastical world-building is reminiscent of Federico Fellini's "Amarcord" and Alain Resnais' "Last Year at Marienbad," drawing viewers into the painterly visual beauty that shines in every scene.
The high fashion featured throughout the film is also not to be missed. Nina's outfits, a cute mix of Paul Smith, Sonia Rykiel, and Cheap Monday, are all styling inspirations. Italian footwear brand L'Autre Chose adds a touch of flair to her look.
Diane Fleri, who made a big breakthrough with "My Brother," plays Nina, whose healthy short haircut is striking. She is currently one of the most sought-after actresses in Italy. Co-starring is Luca Marinelli, who received the Shooting Stars award for emerging European actors.
A Fantastical Summer Story Encountered in an Empty Rome
A summer vacation in Rome, now deserted. Nina, a 25-year-old woman, remains alone in the city. Set in the EUR district, a place of art that also featured in Fellini's films, this is the story of Nina's summer experiences—love, and friendship.
Women of all ages will surely relate to Nina, who is natural yet endearingly clumsy. Don't miss this film, packed with the essence of contemporary Italy.
