A Star-Studded Cast, Including Naomi Watts and Anthony Hopkins

Woody Allen, who made a powerful impression of entering a new peak with the global hit “Midnight in Paris,” which won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay in 2011, is now bringing “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger,” filmed with a stellar cast, to Japan.


This romantic comedy focuses on men and women unexpectedly facing turning points in their lives and being forced to make significant choices. The speedy narrative, where the marital lives of two couples from different generations unravel and branch out into “four love affairs” in the blink of an eye, is characteristic of Allen’s screenwriting.

The cast features Naomi Watts and Josh Brolin as Sally and Roy, a couple in their thirties grappling with a barrage of marital issues, including financial anxieties and the desire for children. The venerable Anthony Hopkins and Britain’s own acclaimed actress Gemma Jones portray Alfie and Helena, Sally’s parents.

Four Love Stories Bloom on the Streets of London

One night, suddenly confronted by the fear of death in bed, Alfie begins an intense regimen to regain his youth. His wife of 40 years, Helena, left by Alfie, contemplates suicide but finds solace in the fraudulent prophecies of a psychic and becomes engrossed in exploring the spiritual realm.



Meanwhile, the marriage of their daughter Sally and the one-hit-wonder writer Roy is also faltering. Soon, Alfie proposes to a blonde call girl younger than his daughter, while Helena finds common ground with an elderly gentleman whose beloved wife has passed away. Sally finds herself drawn to the owner of the art gallery where she works, and Roy becomes captivated by a woman in a red dress he glimpses through his window.—.
