A Collection Honoring a Revolutionary Sports Car

The BMW i8 is the BMW Group's first plug-in hybrid car and represents the most advanced form of sports car. This model, the second in the i series aiming to realize sustainable next-generation mobility, is particularly noteworthy for the materials used to achieve its vehicle weight. By adopting a carbon fiber monocoque body, it achieves an astonishing weight reduction of under 1,490kg.

The newly announced collection is Louis Vuitton's tribute to the most advanced sports car, the BMW i8, inspired by the brand's "art of travel" philosophy. The concept has been embodied and brought to life using carbon fiber, reflecting the BMW i8's futuristic design.

Louis Vuitton has a history of experimenting with carbon materials, known for their exceptional lightness and strength. This project was particularly significant as it represented a new challenge with advanced materials. Furthermore, the collection achieves a high level of functionality as travel luggage, offering versatile capacity and ease of use for various travel styles.

Patrick-Louis Vuitton, the fifth-generation head of Louis Vuitton and head of the Special Orders department, stated, "This collaboration is a microcosm of shared innovation and creativity with BMW. Exceptional Luggage for an Exceptional Car

“The CFRP (carbon fiber-reinforced plastic) used in the innovative sports car BMW i8 demonstrated a precise and intelligent lightweight construction philosophy. Louis Vuitton shared that philosophy and created an exclusive collection that combines astonishing lightness with artistic design,” he commented.



The collection features four models: the "The Weekender GM i8" and "Weekender PM i8" duffel bags, the "Garment Bag i8", and the robust hard-shell "Business Case i8". Each piece is custom-designed to fit perfectly within the car's storage spaces, such as the trunk and rear shelf.

The chic carbon black body, matching the BMW i8's color, is crafted from an original material that echoes Louis Vuitton's hallmark Damier pattern. The handles are made from the finest natural leather. The microfiber lining incorporates the black and electric blue colors, the trademarks of the BMW i8.

All items come with a leather luggage tag. With the exception of the garment bag, each piece includes Louis Vuitton's iconic padlock. This collection will be available for made-to-order at Louis Vuitton boutiques in Munich, Milan, London, Paris, Dubai, New York, and Los Angeles starting April 1st (Tuesday).
