The Fifth-Generation Prius Makes Its Global Debut—Aiming to Be a "Beloved Car," Not a "Commodity" | TOYOTA

HEV: 1.8L and 2.0L, PHEV: 2.0L

The HEV employs the latest hybrid system. The maximum system output for the 2.0L model is 144 kW (193 ps), 1.6 times that of the previous generation. While achieving comparable fuel efficiency, it delivers exhilarating acceleration and responsive driving that reacts to the driver's intentions. The E-Four system is also available, with features such as a high-output motor that further enhances performance on snowy roads and uphill climbs on low-μ surfaces, as well as stability during cornering.
The PHEV features Toyota's first 2.0L plug-in hybrid system, delivering significantly improved acceleration and quietness compared to the previous model. The combination of a highly efficient Dynamic Force engine and a high-output drive lithium-ion battery achieves a system maximum output of 164 kW (223 ps) while maintaining fuel efficiency comparable to the previous model. It delivers excellent dynamic performance, with a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 6.7 seconds.
Furthermore, the EV driving range has increased by more than 50% compared to the previous model. Battery performance has been improved to cover most daily driving needs solely on electric power. The "My Room Mode" allows occupants to use the air conditioning and audio system by drawing power from an external source when the power switch is on during charging, enabling comfortable use of the car's interior as a second room.
In the PHEV, the battery pack, previously located in the luggage area, has been moved under the rear seats, lowering the center of gravity and expanding the luggage space. This combines the sporty driving of the new Prius with enhanced convenience.
The platform underpinning these systems is the evolved second-generation TNGA, which enables a lower center of gravity and the use of large-diameter tires. Furthermore, reinforcements have been added throughout the body to increase rigidity and improve quietness.
The suspension features improved front MacPherson struts and rear double wishbones, providing a planted feel when driving straight and responsive vehicle behavior that follows the driver's intentions when cornering, along with ease of line tracing. Combined with the latest powertrain, it offers driving dynamics that captivate occupants.
