The “FJ” is back, reborn in a more compact form, adding a new value of “Freedom & Joy” to the Land Cruiser.

Since its debut in 1951, the Land Cruiser has been loved in over 190 countries and regions for more than 70 years as a vehicle that can “go anywhere and return alive.”
Currently, the Land Cruiser lineup consists of three series: the flagship 300 series, the heavy-duty 70 series, and the 250 series, a core model born in 2024 with a focus on returning to its origins.
Now, the “FJ” arrives, adding the new value of “Freedom & Joy” to the Land Cruiser's core attributes of reliability, durability, and off-road capability that have supported people's lives. The “FJ,” once popular in Japan, is making a comeback.
With dimensions of 4,575mm in length, 1,855mm in width, and 1,960mm in height, the body is compact compared to previous “FJ” models and other current Land Cruisers. The wheelbase has also been reduced by 250mm from the 250 series to 2,580mm, achieving a minimal turning radius of 5.5m for excellent maneuverability while maintaining off-road agility.
The exterior features a cube-like rectangular body with softened edges, expressing a powerful, unadorned solidity and a sense of fun. The front and rear corner bumpers are designed as detachable, split units, not only improving repairability but also allowing for various customization options.
The interior is designed to contribute to safe off-road and on-road driving, with a low-set cowl and instrument panel top providing excellent forward visibility. The beltline is also lowered to make it easier to look down at the road, even on rough terrain.
The platform utilizes the IMV series, refined through Land Cruiser and pickup truck development, ensuring ample ground clearance and approach angles. Wheel articulation, which indicates how well the wheels stay on the ground, is said to be equivalent to the 70 series, achieving excellent off-road capability despite its compact size.
The engine is the same 2.7-liter gasoline engine used in the 250 series. It produces a maximum output of 120kW (163ps) and a maximum torque of 246Nm, driving all four wheels through a 6-speed automatic transmission.
In line with its release, the Land Cruiser “FJ” will also offer options that expand customization possibilities, such as round headlamps reminiscent of past Land Cruisers and modular panels for attaching outdoor gear.
The first public reveal in Japan awaits at the Japan Mobility Show 2025.
