Mercedes' electric luxury sedan, the EQS, is released—What is the next-generation luxury that can be felt through the five senses? | Mercedes Benz

Driving Range of 700km, the Longest Among EVs Sold in Japan

The powertrain features a permanent magnet synchronous motor (PSM) electric powertrain (eATS) on the rear axle, producing a maximum output of 333 hp, and a lithium-ion battery with an energy capacity of 107.8 kWh, achieving a driving range of 700 km, the longest among electric vehicles sold in Japan. The AMG EQS 53 4MATIC is equipped with eATS on both the front and rear axles, delivering a maximum output of 658 hp (up to 761 hp with RACE START engaged) and a driving range of 601 km.
The in-house manufactured battery comes with a 10-year or 250,000 km performance warranty and supports AC charging up to 6.0 kW and DC fast charging up to 150 kW. By reducing the cobalt content to less than 10%, it is also designed with a focus on reducing the use of rare metals. A distinctive feature for the Japanese market is the bidirectional charging capability, allowing power to be supplied from the EQS to the outside.
The suspension features AIRMATIC, a combination of continuously variable damping and air suspension, as standard equipment. The self-leveling function lowers the vehicle height at high speeds, returns to the original height below 80 km/h, and can be raised by 25 mm via button operation below 40 km/h. Additionally, rear-axle steering (up to 4.5 degrees for the EQS, up to 9 degrees for the EQS 53) makes the large body as easy to handle as a compact car.

Furthermore, the ability to purchase functions and services online through the Mercedes me Store is a hallmark of this latest model. Options include a beginner driver mode that limits the top speed to 120 km/h, a valet parking mode for when using a valet service, an upgrade for the rear-axle steering to a maximum angle of 10 degrees (EQS 450+ only), and personalization packages offering driving sounds reminiscent of engine noise and various mini-games.
The price is 15.78 million yen for the EQS 450+ and 23.72 million yen for the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC.
