Interior Adopts a Cab-Forward Design Unique to BEVs
The Mercedes-Benz EQS is a model developed as an electric vehicle that embodies the ideal of luxury and comfort that the company has cultivated over many years. A new dedicated platform was designed and developed, allowing for a next-generation luxury experience that can be felt through human sight, hearing, touch, and smell.
The EQS has body dimensions of 5,225mm in length, 1,925mm in width, and 1,520mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,210mm. Its exterior reflects the "Sensual Purity" philosophy, characterized by flowing surfaces, minimal seams, and seamless design, fulfilling the stringent demands for functionality and aerodynamics with a "design for purpose."
The sporty, low-slung front of the EQS, along with the "one-bow" line that extends across the greenhouse and the frameless doors, creates a coupe-like silhouette. Because there is no need to accommodate a longitudinally mounted engine or transmission at the front, it adopts a cab-forward design that differs from typical Mercedes-Benz silhouettes. The A-pillar, positioned further forward than usual, and the short front and rear overhangs allow for a spacious cabin.
The front face is integrated into a "Black Panel" unit that incorporates various devices, including driver assistance systems. The bonnet is designed to be opened only during maintenance at service facilities, such as for air filter replacement.
The wheels and tires are selected in sizes and geometries that consider aerodynamics, achieving a Cd value of 0.20 in conjunction with the flowing body shape. Furthermore, special soundproofing measures applied to the seals of the doors and windows thoroughly suppress high-frequency wind noise, contributing to the quietness unique to electric vehicles with minimal powertrain noise.
