The New Mercedes-Maybach S-Class Makes Its Japanese Debut | Mercedes-Maybach
Two Powertrain Options Available
The new Mercedes-Maybach S-Class is offered with two engine options. The "Mercedes-Maybach S 580 4MATIC" (26.48 million yen) features a 3,982cc V8 twin-turbo engine, the "M176," combined with a 48V electrical system and an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). The engine alone produces a maximum output of 503 hp (370 kW) and a maximum torque of 700 Nm, with the ISG capable of delivering an additional 20 hp (15 kW) and 200 Nm for short periods.
The "Mercedes-Maybach S 680 4MATIC" (32.01 million yen) is powered by the 5,980cc V12 twin-turbo engine, the "M279," considered the flagship engine of Mercedes-Benz. It delivers a generous power output of 612 hp (450 kW) and a maximum torque of 900 Nm. Combined with the 9G-TRONIC transmission and the 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system, it achieves comfortable driving performance without unnecessarily raising engine speeds, while constantly optimizing the front and rear power distribution.
The adoption of the "rear-axle steering" system not only preserves the excellent maneuverability characteristic of Mercedes vehicles but also enhances stability at medium to high speeds, complementing the benefits of all-wheel drive.
