MITSUBISHI i-MiEV | The Mitsubishi i-MiEV
A New Generation Electric Vehicle That Runs Solely on Electricity
Mitsubishi Motors has unveiled its mass-produced, new-generation electric vehicle, the "i-MiEV." This i-MiEV runs entirely on electricity, resulting in zero CO2 emissions. It is garnering significant attention as an environmentally friendly, next-generation eco-car.

Charging the vehicle can be done using standard household AC 100V or 200V power outlets. Charging times are announced as approximately 14 hours for a 100V supply and 7 hours for a 200V supply. Of course, it is also compatible with rapid chargers, which are becoming available at large commercial facilities and some hourly parking lots. Using these, the battery can be charged to about 80% in approximately 30 minutes.
The driving range is up to 160 km (based on the 10.15 mode standard). In practical use, expect around 120 km on a full charge under normal driving conditions without climate control. With heating, this drops to about 80 km, and with air conditioning, around 100 km. The motor's performance delivers 64 ps at 3000–6000 rpm for maximum output and 18.4 kgfm of maximum torque from 0–2000 rpm. This maximum output is equivalent to that of the gasoline turbo model of the "i," the Kei car upon which the i-MiEV is based. The maximum torque, however, significantly surpasses that of the gasoline turbo model.
The exterior design is shared with the base model, the "i." By leveraging the "i's" characteristic long wheelbase, it has been possible to install a large-capacity drive battery under the floor and the power unit beneath the luggage compartment, successfully maintaining the same cabin and luggage space as the "i."
The price is ¥4,599,000. With a government subsidy of up to ¥1,390,000, the actual cost to the buyer becomes ¥3,209,000. Furthermore, due to eco-car tax reductions, it is also eligible for exemptions from automobile weight tax and automobile acquisition tax.
While leasing to corporations will be the primary focus initially, orders from individual customers will begin in late July. Deliveries are scheduled to commence from April 2010.
