Developed Alongside the Next-Generation Smart
Renault will unveil the new generation of its compact hatchback, the Twingo, at the Geneva Motor Show in early March. This new Twingo has been co-developed with Daimler and is slated to appear as the next-generation Smart, in both 2-seater and 4-seater configurations.
The overall proportions and design follow the concept car "Twin'RUN," which paid homage to the classic "Renault 5," and the concept "Twin'Z" created in collaboration with Ross Lovegrove. The front features Renault's latest signature face, with a large diamond emblem at the center and black lines extending towards the headlights.
Furthermore, the layout, which incorporates the turn signals above the headlights, is carried over from the previous Twingo. Although smaller, the LED daytime running lights, a distinctive feature of the concept cars, have also been retained. The black hatch door that defines the rear view is made of glass.
The new model features rear doors for the first time in the Twingo's history. The handles for these rear doors are hidden within the C-pillar, similar to the "Clio", maintaining convenience while giving the overall proportions a sporty appearance.
Due to the collaboration with Smart and the need to achieve the agility expected of a compact car, the new Twingo is equipped with a rear-mounted engine. While details about the engine and transmission have not yet been revealed, it promises a nimble driving experience, reminiscent of the spirited performance shown in the Twin'Run concept car.
This announcement covers only the exterior. Details regarding the interior and powertrain will be revealed at the Geneva Motor Show in early March.
