A Model Signifying Infiniti's Future Direction
The "Q50" unveiled by Infiniti is, as is evident from its exterior, a sister model to the Nissan "Skyline" and the successor to the "Infiniti G37." Infiniti has changed its naming convention from the previous system to one where sedans and convertibles will be prefixed with "Q," and SUVs and crossovers with "QX." The "Q50" is the first model to which this rule applies.
At the Detroit Motor Show 2013 venue, where it made its debut, all current Infiniti cars and an Infiniti Red Bull Racing Formula 1 car were on display, with the Q50 positioned at the center.
The Q50's engine is a 3.7-liter V6, similar to the G37, but with minor improvements, it produces a maximum output of 328 ps. Drivetrain options include FR and 4WD. The hybrid model is equipped with a dual-clutch control mechanism called the "Direct Response Hybrid System."
Additionally, the "Infiniti Direct Adaptive Steering" system and "Active Lane Control" are making their debut in the "Q50." The former is an electronically controlled steering system with four setting modes, said to reflect the driver's intentions to the tires more quickly than a mechanical system. The latter is a function that uses a camera to prevent lane departure.
According to Infiniti, the "Q50" is a model that signifies the future direction of the steadily growing Infiniti brand and marks a milestone towards the future. Sales in the United States and Canada are scheduled to begin in the summer of 2013.
