Test drive of the Daihatsu Rocky / Toyota Raize, now with a high-quality, low-price hybrid model
1.2-Liter Naturally Aspirated Model Also Added
The previous 1.0-liter turbo model is now exclusively available with 4WD. For 2WD configurations, a new 1.2-liter naturally aspirated engine has been introduced. This option is recommended for users who desire the Rocky/Raize at a more affordable price, even without the hybrid system.
The test vehicle was the "Raize Z (2WD)". While its 87ps (64kW) / 113Nm output from the 1.2-liter engine is less than the 1.0-liter turbo, it's sufficient to propel the sub-1-ton, 970kg body. The smooth torque delivery in everyday driving conditions, matching the flow of city traffic, left a very favorable impression. The car responds precisely to accelerator input, making it highly adaptable for any driver.
The prices for the two models are: the "Raize Hybrid Z (2WD)" at ¥2,328,000, and the "Raize Z (2WD)" at ¥2,039,000. With these additions, it's certain that sales figures for the Rocky/Raize will continue to climb.
