What is travel art? Murakami Kaikai experiences French luxury with the DS 7 | DS
What "Art of Travel" the DS 7 Embodies
At THE HIRAMATSU HOTELS & RESORTS Sengokuhara, we immediately connected the DS 7 to the standard charger provided in the parking area, initiating charging from the port located on the rear left side. This allows for maximizing the EV mode range while enjoying dinner.
Opened at the end of 2016, this facility not only offers the exquisite cuisine characteristic of Hiramatsu but also features 11 guest rooms with semi-open-air hot spring baths in the main building where dining is located. Although nine rooms were added in the annex residence building three and a half years ago, it remains an exclusive and authentic auberge with a total of just 20 rooms.
At the main entrance, a flag adorned with a Sonia Delaunay painting welcomes guests. After passing through the lobby lounge, furnished with antique furniture and decorated with paintings by Picasso and Chagall, we were led to the dining room overlooking a water feature and greenery.
While savoring the appetizer, "Premium Yatsushiro Trout and Fromage Blanc Cannelloni, with Various Vegetables and Beurre Maître d'Hôtel," Kaikai began to reflect on his day with the DS 7:
Murakami"Actually, I used to own a Citroën C6. While it's an older car, I feel the DS 7 has evolved significantly in terms of its premium feel."
Nanyo"The C6 was a sedan, and the DS 7 is an SUV. To use a fashion analogy, it's like the difference between a suit and a sports jacket. The latter is handled by the flagship sedan, the DS 9, while the DS 7 embodies the world of the former."
It's an urban SUV, yet it can also handle long drives comfortably like a GT. While it transcends genre boundaries, the DS 7's unique position, avoiding overly ornate add-on designs, is indeed distinctive.
Murakami"I see. Indeed, more and more people want to stand out from the crowd, so there's a growing market catering to that need."
Nanyo"Come to think of it, DS isn't a brand everyone knows, which is precisely how it has carved out its unique position in the automotive world."
Murakami"It's okay if more than half of my contemporaries don't understand it; for those who do, there's a deep satisfaction. It's clearly different from luxury based on hierarchy or price."
Nanyo"They are uncompromisingly committed to the underlying French craftsmanship and expertise, which could even be considered conservative."
Murakami"Rather than insisting on being unique, they skillfully highlight their strengths, such as 'savoir-faire.' That's what gives the DS 7 its distinctive character."
The DS philosophy of "Art of Travel" aims to elevate not just the comfort of travel, but the journey itself into a special experience akin to encountering art.
