What is travel art? Murakami Kaikai experiences French luxury with the DS 7 | DS
Enjoying the Drive: Experiencing the DS 7's Performance on a Hakone Road Trip
As we descended the mountain road towards Sengokuhara, Kaikai took the wheel of the DS 7, and he seemed to have a lot to say about its performance.
Murakami"This DS 7 is a plug-in hybrid 4WD, and the electric motor and engine switch seamlessly depending on the load. Also, the suspension feels quite firm."
Nanyo"Yes, many customers are switching from German cars these days, and the default 'Hybrid mode' has a deliberately firmer suspension setting. If you switch to Comfort mode..."
Murakami"Ah, you're right, it feels softer than before, with a more noticeable bouncing motion."
In Comfort mode, the "DS Active Scan Suspension" is activated, which uses a camera to read the road surface ahead and actively control the damper's damping force. The steering feel becomes slightly lighter, and the body roll during cornering increases slightly.
Nanyo"Don't you think it's quite quiet even at higher speeds, and you can hear conversations clearly?"
Murakami"That's true. But it doesn't feel just quiet, somehow."
The DS 7 uses acoustic glass for the windshield and side windows, effectively blocking out external noise without relying solely on sound insulation materials. This allows conversations inside the car to be heard clearly without being absorbed too much by the interior.
As we entered the city and the speed dropped to 50 km/h, the DS 7 began to actively run on the rear motor alone.
Murakami"As long as the drive battery has charge, it primarily uses the rear wheels as the drive wheels, right?"
Nanyo"You might not notice it unless you accelerate a bit firmly, but there is a sensation of being pushed forward from behind as you accelerate."
The DS 7 doesn't just offer a comfortable journey from point A to point B; it allows you to enjoy the process of travel by adapting its driving dynamics to the situation.
While enjoying the drive, we arrived at our next destination, "THE HIRAMATSU HOTELS & RESORTS Sengokuhara," which also served as our dinner venue.
