The Exterior Design of the DS 7, as Described by a Rising Creative Director

Murakami Kaikai, who went independent after working at Miyake Design Studio and now leads SIMONE, providing creative consulting on design, business, and technology for domestic and international companies and brands, makes regular business trips to Paris for Fashion Week and the Première Vision fabric trade show. Upon first viewing the DS 7 from a slight distance, he commented:

A Bézier curve is a smooth curve drawn by connecting arbitrary points using a function, a technique still widely used by designers working with CAD and computer graphics. It originated in France around 1960 for drawing car bodies.

Nanyo"It's the same for the body lines, like around the rear hatch and the fender flares, and also for the newly added LED daytime running lights with transmitted light. The DS design team itself calls this design language 'Parametric Design.'"

The front mask of the DS 7 features unique daytime running lights as a new design element. Known as "DS Light Veil," they emit a soft, transmitted light from within the bumper, ensuring excellent visibility from all directions.

Murakami"While these can now be drawn with computer programs, Flaminio Bertoni, who designed the original DS 19 in the 1950s, was inspired by the smooth, fish-like shapes, I've heard."

"Post-war industrial design followed a path from Bauhaus to Italian Modernism, focusing on practicality. Perhaps the revival of French avant-garde as a counterpoint to that merged with Citroën's DNA."

The reflective panels of the rear combination lamps, resembling fish scales that diffuse red light, are also unique; no two are exactly the same size or shape. This suggests that both the front and rear lights have become more parametric, enhancing the design's overall sophistication.
