A Showcase of a British Collaborative Project

Lotus Evora Goes Hybrid

British sports car marque Lotus has unveiled its Evorahybrid car, the Evora 414E Hybrid, at the Goodwood Festival. The hybrid system employs a series configuration, where the engine generates electricity to power the electric motor as needed.

Range Extender Sports

The "Evora 414E Hybrid" is the company's two-door, 2+2 seating sports car, the "Evora," equipped with a hybrid powertrain. It boasts impressive specifications, including a maximum output of 414ps, 1,000Nm of torque, and 0-100km/h acceleration in approximately 4 seconds. Furthermore, it achieves remarkable environmental performance with CO2 emissions of just 55g/km according to NEDC (New European Driving Cycle) measurements.

The hybrid system is a series type. It is fundamentally the same format as that used in the Chevrolet Volt"Volt" and others. While the battery has sufficient charge, two electric motors drive the rear wheels via a transmission made by Xtrac. When the battery level drops, a Lotus-developed 1.2-liter, three-cylinder engine (35kW output) starts up, driving an EVO-manufactured generator. This compact engine for power generation can run not only on gasoline but also on biofuels (methanol or ethanol), demonstrating a thorough commitment to environmental measures. The pure electric driving range, without engaging the generator, is approximately 30 miles (48km).

The Evora 414E Hybrid is one of the demonstration cars born from the "REEVolution Consortium," established by the UK government-related public body, the Technology Strategy Board (TSB).

This consortium involves automotive manufacturers and parts suppliers collaborating to develop high-performance range-extender EVs and plug-in hybrid vehicles. Its objective is to establish the technology and supply chain for upcoming environmentally friendly vehicles (low CO2 emission vehicles) within the UK and to advance into the global market.

Infiniti EMERG-E

Currently, the consortium comprises three automotive manufacturers, primarily Jaguar Land Rover, along with Lotus and Nissan (under the Infiniti brand), and UK-based suppliers such as Axeon Technologies, EVO Electric, and Xtrac.

Infiniti Also Presents the "EMERG-E"

Additionally, at this year's Goodwood Festival, Infiniti also showcased the "EMERG-E," which was announced as a concept car at the Geneva International Motor Show. The concept car "EMERG-E"This vehicle was also developed as part of the same project. While the EMERG-E's maximum output is slightly different at 408ps (300kW), other specifications are publicly announced as similar: 0-100km/h acceleration in 4 seconds, CO2 emissions of 55g/km, and an EV driving range of 30 miles (48km).
