Inheriting Iconic DNA to Express a Pure Passion for the Sea
Blancpain introduced the world's first modern diver's watch, the "Fifty Fathoms," in 1953. Since then, the brand has consistently committed itself to exploring, conserving, and better understanding the world's oceans.
In addition to its annual support for key exploration and oceanographic projects, Blancpain launched the first limited edition timepiece in the Blancpain Ocean Commitment (BOC) series in 2014. Building on the success and positive message of that model, a second edition followed in 2016, leading to the unveiling of the third "Ocean Commitment Fifty Fathoms III" this year.
This limited edition inherits the DNA and key features of the 1953 "Fifty Fathoms," which set the standard for exceptional diver's watches. The timepiece is equipped with a reliable and robust automatic movement (Cal. 1151), offering a four-day power reserve. A silicon balance spring, resistant to magnetic fields, is integrated into the balance wheel, eliminating the need for the soft iron inner case that was previously essential for magnetic protection.
Through the sapphire case back, one can admire the NAC (a platinum alloy) finished gold rotor, engraved with "Ocean Commitment," alongside the movement adorned with delicate Côtes de Genève decoration. It also features 30-bar water resistance, equivalent to a depth of 300 meters, and the unidirectional rotating bezel essential for a diver's watch. The bezel, colored in a shade of blue evoking the ocean, is protected by a scratch-resistant sapphire ring – an innovative feature Blancpain introduced in 2003.
Large hour markers, like the hands, are coated with Super-LumiNova® to ensure legibility underwater. The dial of this limited timepiece, colored a deep blue along with the bezel, bears the "BOC" logo at the 6 o'clock position.
This special timepiece is one of only 250 pieces worldwide. Each is individually numbered and accompanied by the "Edition Fifty Fathoms Book." Owners of the "Ocean Commitment Fifty Fathoms III" will also receive exclusive member benefits, including invitations to private BOC events for Ocean Commitment Circle members and conferences on academic research funded by Blancpain. Furthermore, for each of the 250 limited edition timepieces sold, Blancpain will donate 1,000 euros, totaling 250,000 euros, to further support ocean conservation efforts. Every owner of this timepiece becomes a supporter of ocean commitment.
