Lucara successfully recovered Sewelo intact, without damaging it during the mining process, by utilizing advanced XRT scanner technology.
Initial analysis revealed that Sewelo is a rough diamond of 'near gem quality,' falling within the 'high-quality white gem' category. Detailed studies on its structure, composition, and quality are planned over the coming months.

Sewelo possesses numerous unique characteristics, not only its immense size but also its surface, which is covered by an extremely thin layer of black carbon.
Louis Vuitton is collaborating with HB, master diamond cutters in Antwerp, to meticulously examine Sewelo using the latest scanning and imaging technologies.
A hole has been drilled into the top of the rough to visualize its core, and plans are underway to create optimally finished individual stones, considering various combinations of size, color, and shape.
This collaboration aims to cut numerous diamonds from Sewelo to create bespoke, custom-cut diamonds.
The ultimate personalization will be offered to clients, including cuts inspired by the brand's iconic Monogram.

Named Sewelo, meaning 'rare find' in Setswana, this rough diamond weighs 352 grams and is about the size of a tennis ball.
It is the second-largest diamond rough ever found, following the 3,106-carat Cullinan discovered in South Africa in 1905, and the largest ever found in Botswana.
