LOUIS VUITTON has unveiled a new time object, the 'Louis Vuitton Camaïeu'. Following last year's 'Mongolfière', this creation reinterprets the Maison's delivery trucks from the early 20th century as an intricate mechanical timepiece.

A Grand Homage to a Historic Vehicle

The inspiration for this timepiece comes from the trucks that connected the Asnières atelier to clients and stores in the early 20th century. At the time, these trucks, laden with trunks, symbolized the Maison's expanding business and embodied Gaston-Louis Vuitton's pioneering adoption of automobiles.

The body is crafted from exceptionally light yet durable aluminum, finished in the Maison's signature saffron and blue hues. The essence of LOUIS VUITTON is expressed in every detail, from the Monogram Flower-adorned hood and the silver radiator bearing the LV logo, to the delicately decorated wheels. The tires are engraved with the LV signature, and the "LV 1854" license plate signifies the Maison's founding year.

The most striking feature is the mechanical movement housed within the vehicle's cabin. In a bold design choice, the space where the driver would sit accommodates the balance wheel. Time is displayed on two rotating cylinders beneath the truck's hood, each turning at its own pace. Through the transparent panels of the windows and roof, one can observe the escapement at the center of the driver's seat.

This Swiss-made movement was designed and manufactured by L'Epée 1839 for 'La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton'. It comprises 218 components and boasts an 8-day power reserve.

The truck bed contains a meticulously recreated miniature Monogram trunk, scaled to match the vehicle. Opening the trunk reveals a key bearing the LOUIS VUITTON signature. This key is not merely decorative; it is essential for setting the time and winding the movement, a poetic detail evoking the hand-crank winding of yesteryear.

Produced in a limited edition of 15 pieces, this timepiece also comes in a precious model inspired by fine jewelry. The hood features a 0.5-carat LV Monogram Star Cut diamond, while the radiator grille is adorned with snow-set diamonds and a gold-colored signature. The headlights are set with round diamonds, and the taillights feature 20 red and orange baguette-cut sapphires.

The sides of the truck are embellished with guilloché engraving of the Maison's emblematic Damier pattern, scattered with diamonds. This decoration alone requires 15 hours of work, showcasing the exceptional skill of the artisans.

Artistic Director Mathieu Egreta states, "We wanted to celebrate the original appearance of this legendary vehicle, which tells the story of the Maison's early days." The addresses of the Asnières atelier, 'La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton' in Geneva, and the Champs-Élysées boutique are designed on the vehicle's sides, celebrating the dialogue between trunk-making and watchmaking savoir-faire.

The 'Louis Vuitton Camaïeu' is the ultimate piece, embodying the Maison's savoir-faire and narrating LOUIS VUITTON's rich history.
