Confronting Fundamental Human Mysteries with an Unprecedented Theme

'LUCY/LUCY,' where Luc Besson confronts fundamental human mysteries with an unprecedented theme—'What if the 10 percent of the human brain that normally functions were to awaken?'—has arrived in Japan.

Luc Besson, known for films like 'Léon,' 'Nikita,' and 'The Fifth Element,' has consistently portrayed fragile yet powerful female characters ahead of their time. For this new film, he chose 'the sexiest woman in the world,' Scarlett Johansson, as his heroine. Now a top star thanks to the 'Avengers' series, she mysteriously portrays Lucy, a heroine who holds the key to humanity's future.

A stellar supporting cast also joins the film. Oscar winner Morgan Freeman plays the neuroscientist who watches over Lucy. Meanwhile, Choi Min-sik, the distinctive South Korean actor from 'Oldboy,' plays the mafia boss who ensnares Lucy.

Lucy's Brain Awakens, Leading to Uncontrollable Rampage

Lucy, who was living a perfectly ordinary life, gets caught up in a dark mafia deal one day. They intended to use her as a mule, implanting a bag containing a substance from within the human body and smuggling it overseas.

However, an accident causes the substance inside Lucy's body to leak, triggering changes in her brain. She begins to exhibit abilities that surpass human comprehension, one after another.

Neuroscientist Norman believes in her brain's potential and arranges to meet her. Meanwhile, the mafia mobilizes its entire vast organization to hunt down the missing Lucy. Evading the mafia and heading towards the professor, Lucy gradually loses her humanity, descending into a state of uncontrollable rampage, even beyond her own command. An unstoppable awakening. Will her existence lead humanity to ruin, or to salvation?.

Set against the global backdrop of New York, Paris, and Taipei, the film unfolds with a bold and unpredictable story. Besson, who has consistently depicted heroines forging their way through solitary, intense destinies, offers a new world to witness, complemented by polished, stylish visuals.
