A Refreshing Tale of Inspiration from France: 'The Finishers' (Great Days!)
A stubborn, awkward father and his rebellious son, who uses a wheelchair, tackle the pinnacle of triathlons, the 'Ironman Race,' in 'The Finishers' (Great Days!). The film opens August 29 (Friday) at TOHO Cinemas Nihonbashi, Shinjuku Musashinokan, and other theaters nationwide.

Fabien Aloot, who has a disability himself, delivers a powerful performance as the young protagonist.
The 'Ironman Race'—3.8km swim, 180km bike, 42.195km run—is the most grueling triathlon. A boy in a wheelchair and his father take on this formidable challenge.—The film, which opened the 'French Film Festival 2014' this past June and has been hailed as "the next 'The Intouchables,'" is now coming to theaters.
Directed by Nils Tavernier, known for his documentary 'Étoile' about the ballerinas of the Paris Opera Ballet. After encountering the vibrant energy of children with disabilities during his documentary work, Tavernier was inspired to create this film to share their brilliance with a wider audience.
Tavernier discovered Fabien Aloot, an actor with a disability himself, through auditions. Though it was his first acting role, Aloot gave a full-bodied performance as a young man striving for independence. Jacques Gamblin, a renowned French actor known for his role in Imamura Shohei's 'Dr. Akagi,' plays the father, while Alexandra Lamy portrays the mother, masterfully capturing the complex dynamics of a family.
17-year-old Julien insists to his father: 'I want to do the triathlon together.'
Seventeen-year-old Julien looks forward to reuniting with his father, Paul, who returns home after a long period of unemployment. However, Paul, unsure how to interact with his son in a wheelchair, avoids speaking to him.
To change their strained relationship, Julien shows his father an article he found online about "participating in an Ironman Race with a disabled son," and insists, 'I want to do the race together.' Paul dismisses it with a simple 'It's impossible.' But the competitive Julien devises various strategies to persuade his father, and they eventually form a team.
The two overcome a series of obstacles: the mother's opposition, rejection from the organizing committee, grueling training, and unexpected injuries. Then comes the fateful day. What will be the outcome of their challenge?—.
The father, unable to face his son's disability, had long neglected his role as a parent. The son, now 17, wants to be recognized as an adult. The race they undertake at this turning point in their lives is a journey for them to rebuild their lives and rediscover their father-son bond.
