Barfi is played by Ranbir Kapoor, an actor born into a film family and one of the most popular young actors in Bollywood. Through his expressive face and full-body performance, he masterfully portrays the joys and sorrows of life, even in the challenging role of a deaf and mute young man. Priyanka Chopra, who won the Miss World 2000 crown representing India and is active both domestically and internationally, plays Jhilmil, Barfi's childhood friend. Shruti, who is married to a wealthy businessman but finds herself drawn to Barfi, is portrayed by Ileana D'Cruz.
