From Comedy to Hard-Boiled: Understanding the French Way of Life Through Film
The "France Film Festival" allows you to experience the diversity of French culture and the present-day France through its films. This year marks the 90th anniversary of Franco-Japanese cultural cooperation and the 60th anniversary of UniFrance Films, the organization promoting French cinema abroad, and the festival will celebrate this milestone with a rich program.
The festival is also known for the distinguished guests who visit Japan each year. This year, the festival will be led by director Tony Gatlif, who won the Best Director award at the Cannes Film Festival for "Exils" (2004). He will present "Geronimo," which was screened as a special invitation film at this year's Cannes Film Festival.
The opening film selected is "Finishers (tentative title)" (Japanese title: "Great Days! - A Father and Son's Challenge to Their Dreams"), scheduled for release in Japan at the end of August. This inspiring story of a father and his son in a wheelchair who take on the ultimate triathlon, the "Ironman Race," will have its premiere screening.
In commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the passing of Nouvelle Vague master François Truffaut, "Mississippi Mermaid" (1969), starring Catherine Deneuve, will also be specially screened. The lineup also includes a diverse selection of films such as "Yves Saint Laurent," which portrays the triumphs and solitude in the life of the legendary fashion designer.
From comedies to documentaries and hard-boiled thrillers, we want to experience the French way of life through film.
