Cloud Atlas, a grand spectacle that depicts the lives of people across six different eras, from the 19th to the 24th century, will be released nationwide on Friday, March 15th, at Shinjuku Piccadilly and other theaters.

A Stellar Cast, Including Tom Hanks, Embodies Multiple Characters Bound by the Same Soul
Cloud Atlas is an epic saga where acclaimed actors like Tom Hanks portray multiple characters sharing the same soul, spanning from the past to the future. It weaves together human drama, near-future sci-fi, action, mystery, and romance into a single narrative.
The film is an adaptation of the bestselling novel by the acclaimed emerging author David Mitchell, brought to life by the visionary trio of directors: the Wachowskis, who redefined cinema with The Matrix, and Tom Tykwer of Run Lola Run.
The cast is equally impressive, featuring a constellation of acting talent. Led by two-time Academy Award winner Tom Hanks, the ensemble includes Halle Berry, Jim Broadbent, Hugh Grant, Hugo Weaving, and South Korea's rising star Bae Doona, creating a rich international tapestry. They undertake the bold and groundbreaking challenge of portraying multiple individuals with the same soul, a feat that truly tests their acting prowess.
Encounters and Partings That Echo Through Time
Journeying back to 1849, to the Pacific Islands. Dr. Henry Goose (Tom Hanks) encounters Adam Ewing (Jim Sturgess), a young lawyer newly arrived from San Francisco. Goose offers to treat Ewing, who has fallen ill on the island, but a sinister glint flickers in his eyes.
Then, across several eras, we arrive in 1973 San Francisco. Isaac Sachs (Tom Hanks), who shares the same soul as Dr. Henry Goose, falls in love with journalist Luisa (Halle Berry) and resolves to betray his company.
Across 500 years, from the 19th to the 24th century, six episodes appear to unfold randomly, yet they are meticulously sequenced to form a cohesive narrative. The tumultuous age of seafaring, the untold story behind the creation of a legendary song, a conspiracy at a nuclear power plant, a popular murderer-turned-author, a revolutionary clone girl who becomes a legend, and the battles on a post-apocalyptic Earth—— the people living within these times, though their forms may change, are drawn to one another, meeting and parting countless times. Whether as parents and children, spouses, siblings, lovers, friends, or even enemies, they strive to fulfill their love eventually.
“What is the purpose of our existence?” A film that may hold the key to humanity's eternal question is about to begin.
