Visualizing a Sense of Ambiguity

The mosaic-like visuals depicted on the "it knit" sweaters, named she, he, and it, were created with the idea of imagining that vague state of mind when someone says, "Look, it's that person, that person!" and the image solidifies into a proper noun.

Graphic designer Shogo Kishino commented, "In my work, I often had the opportunity to print graphics on T-shirts, but despite being called 'clothing,' I felt a sense of dissonance because the graphics didn't blend well with the material. When colors and patterns are applied to the material itself – the 'wearable item' – I wondered if they could become more integrated. I thought knitwear might be the answer, and I've been working on prototypes."




He further explained his endeavor: "The patterns, knitted with ten colors of yarn to integrate seamlessly with the material, are novel and create charming knits that feel both fresh and nostalgic. The sizing is designed to be wearable by both men and women."

Kishino, who is renowned for his visual identity (VI) and signage planning, is exploring "places where my graphic design can function" as an extension of his daily activities.
