The theme for the Spring/Summer 2013 collection is "papier collé"
Debut collection inspired by collage
The brand name "doublet" refers to a word game invented by Lewis Carroll, the author of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland," in which letters are substituted one by one until the word changes to one with a different meaning. "Just as we change words, our concept is to transform familiar items into slightly unsettling everyday wear by replacing parts of basic, standard items with sudden, different ideas. We develop everything from apparel to accessories," says designer Masayuki Ino. He explains the debut collection.

The first season expresses art as everyday wear
──What is the theme/concept for the Spring/Summer 2013 collection?
"Papier collé." Papier collé refers to collage and the technique of pasting paper scraps, wallpaper, colored or patterned paper, wood pieces, thin resin, and other materials onto a backing.
──Please tell us about the theme/concept.
This collection applies the concept of collage—pasting—to clothing through various methods and techniques. The dissonance that arises when different items are pasted onto ordinary ones. The texture of materials woven together in a gradient. Trompe-l'œil effects that appear to be printed and pasted tape. It's a first season that expresses art as everyday wear, being conceptual yet easy to wear.
──What are the key looks (coordinations)?
Inspired by the theme "papier collé" (French), this coordination uses tricolor. A shirt with a gingham check base, splattered with paint-like madras check fabric for a fresh spring/summer feel, paired with a tie featuring FRAGILE tape print, fastened with a tape-cutter-shaped tie pin for an elegant look. The silk-blend gradient jacquard shorts, woven on a tie loom, are paired with a vest of the same material, held loosely to create a sense of coolness without layering. For an accent, tricolor zori sandals, made by a long-established zori maker in Nara Prefecture, are worn on the feet.
──What are the key items?
We deliberately haven't created any specific key items. The concept of "pasting" is expressed through processing, weaving, and printing across all products in a way that directly resonates with the viewer. Therefore, you could say every item is a key item.
──What are the key colors?
We use familiar basic colors like gray, beige, and navy as a base, with accents of yellow and blue in shoes and accessories.
We used them in the lookbook: the sunglasses brand "blanc." They are made in Sabae, Fukui Prefecture, and not only are they comfortable to wear, but they also have a subtle accent within their simplicity. I'm looking forward to their future creations.
──A message to your fans.
We will continue to create things that bring joy to those who see them and satisfaction to those who wear them. Please look forward to it.
