Spring/Summer 2016 Collection Report

For the Spring/Summer 2016 collection, ato aimed to express the new space created between clothing and the body. With its subtle manipulation of the space between garment and flesh, this collection, which conceals an edgy sensibility within comfort, is noteworthy as a new stage for permanent wear.

The Latest Looks: A Focus on Layering

A unique sense of gender is born from combining oversized, long tops with long T-shirts or bottoms of various lengths. In ato's Spring/Summer 2016 collection, items such as long cardigans with adjustable slits, cocoon-style coats, gowns, and blousons integrating vests appeared, aiming to transcend the loose silhouettes of the '80s. The natural shoulder line emerges through the fabric of the drop shoulders, creating a silhouette that emphasizes the body's sharpness while conveying a sense of volume.

The garments above feature contrasting materials for the front, back, and sleeves. By seamlessly integrating fabrics with surface texture like dobby, piqué, and oxford weave with thin jersey cut-and-sew materials, light lines and comfortable wearability are achieved.

Understated Designs That Exude a Mode Sensibility

The collection also challenges the creation of new appeal from simple combinations, such as a white shirt and black pants. Variations include high-neck and boat-neck shirts, deliberately crafted from high-count white broadcloth rather than jersey, and long shirts with functional slits. All feature understated designs that, conversely, exude a mode sensibility.

Furthermore, a playful new three-piece setup comprising jackets, pants, and T-shirts made from summer wool and cut-and-sew fabric makes its debut. By omitting the jacket or pairing with a white shirt, these pieces can be combined to create looks that are either casual or formal, marking them as noteworthy new dress components.
