An Homage to Charlotte Perriand

In a comprehensive project announced at a special exhibition in Miami last December, Cassina shared its deep affection and passion for Charlotte Perriand, one of the 20th century's most pioneering female architects, with Louis Vuitton. Through an exhibition combining furniture, fashion, and photography, they paid the highest tribute to a figure hailed as a "modern legend."




Louis Vuitton selected Charlotte Perriand, who lived through a turbulent era by adhering to her own beliefs without conforming to the establishment, as the inspiration for its 2014 Spring/Summer and Autumn Icon collections.


Louis Vuitton's Expertise in Saddlery Craftsmanship

The limited edition "LC4 CP" of 1,000 units, based on the "LC4 Chaise Longue" designed by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand, was officially announced at Design Miami/ Art Basel Miami Beach 2013 to commemorate the 110th anniversary of Charlotte Perriand's birth.




This product, proclaimed at the time of its release to offer ultimate relaxation, perfectly reflects her philosophy of functional furniture designed to create maximum comfort while accommodating the natural human posture. The inspiration for this "LC4 CP" comes from a famous photograph of Perriand herself reclining on the first model of the chaise longue, which featured an independent mattress attached directly to the frame.


The "LC4 CP" tribute edition was developed using Louis Vuitton's specialized techniques rooted in saddlery craftsmanship. Like the first model, it features an independent mattress, but is made with a pale pink natural saddle leather. Contrasting dark brown saddle leather is used for the footrest and headrest.




All leather was supplied from Louis Vuitton's tanneries. The soft impression created by the natural saddle leather evokes the humanistic personality of Charlotte Perriand.
