Otsuka Furniture, part of Yamada Denki's furniture division, has launched the exhibition and sale of 'WASHI,' the latest designer line from Yamagata Dantsu, manufactured by Oriental Carpet Co., Ltd.

Yamagata Dantsu, developed by Oriental Carpet as a brand for individual users, offers a series tailored to contemporary living spaces, maintaining the high level of craftsmanship trusted by professionals, under the concept of 'hospitality from your feet.'

The Yamagata Dantsu Designer Line, in particular, is a collection of carpets born from collaborations with renowned designers. This new work, 'WASHI,' was created in collaboration with architect Kengo Kuma. This marks the fourth collaboration with Mr. Kuma.

The 'WASHI' design is inspired by 'Yuton,' a type of floor covering made by layering Japanese washi paper, which has been passed down since the Edo period. This design is realized through Yamagata Dantsu's meticulous hand-tufting technique. Using kozo (mulberry) paper yarn, processed by hand and air-dried, blended with undyed wool and silk, the carpet offers a rich tactile experience that seamlessly integrates into the living space.

The surface pile is composed of four layers of varying lengths—8mm, 10mm, 15mm, and 25mm—and is available in four sizes suitable for various spaces, from entryways to bedrooms and living rooms. Japanese washi, a unique natural material, is well-suited to the Japanese lifestyle of living barefoot. Its texture and soft feel are expected to bring a natural sense of comfort to living spaces.
