&MEDICAL proposes design-forward products that support health maintenance, centered on the theme of "healthcare closer to home." Introducing the multifunctional sofa bench "BARS," designed by product designer Makoto Hashikura.

With the spread of telework, the boundaries between living rooms, workspaces, and bedrooms are blurring. "I envisioned a sofa bench that could smoothly change its form like an organism to adapt to diverse living scenes," says Hashikura, who created a design with modes for relaxation, activity, and flat configuration.
The shape changes easily with remote control operation. In "Relax Mode," it replicates the "neutral posture" advocated by NASA, which is said to place the least strain on the body. This creates a state of deep relaxation, supporting comfortable naps and breaks while promoting refreshment. High-resilience urethane, excellent for body pressure distribution, is used inside the seat, providing firm support for the entire body.
There is also "Active Mode," ideal for reading, watching movies, or working on a PC, and "Flat Mode," which can be used as a two- or three-seater bench or daybed, all designed to support various situations without straining the body. The inclusion of two types of USB ports on the side of the bench is also a welcome feature.
