A Special Installation Commemorating the 40th Anniversary of the Maralunga Sofa


New Collections from "Cassina" and "ixc."


Cassina ixc. Aoyama will exhibit new collections from "Cassina" and "ixc.". Furthermore, a special installation will be unveiled to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Maralunga sofa, one of Vico Magistretti's masterpieces.

A Lineup of Modern and Rich Designs

From Cassina, four new items will be introduced, including "NUAGE," a storage unit inspired by traditional Japanese architecture by Charlotte Perriand, and "OMBRA TOKYO," also known as the "Perriand Chair," with new specifications. ixc. will feature new collections from PHILIPPE HUREL and DESALTO.

"NUAGE (Nuage Bookshelf)"

Design | Charlotte Perriand

Charlotte Perriand designed this piece after seeing the "Chigaidana" (staggered shelf) at Katsura Imperial Villa in Kyoto, drawing inspiration from standardized traditional Japanese architecture. It is highly graphic and functional, adding a unique personality to any interior.

The basic components are shelves in natural oak finish and vertical panels in anodized aluminum. The sliding doors are available in gray, black, and painted colors (red, blue, green, yellow, white), allowing for customization to suit individual preferences.

"OMBRA TOKYO (Ombra Tokyo Chair)"

Design | Charlotte Perriand

This chair, also known as the "Perriand Chair," was designed in 1955 for the exhibition "Proposal for a Synthesis of the Arts – Le Corbusier, Léger, Perriand." Inspired by Bunraku puppetry, it is formed by laminating and pressing plywood. Its thinness and gentle curves create a "shadow" for the sitter, as its name suggests. It is also stackable.

"MAIKO (Maiko Armchair)"

This armchair combines comfort and elegant design, making it suitable for both desks and dining tables. Its design, utilizing traditional techniques, transcends time and complements interiors of any style. The name "MAIKO" is inspired by the purity and functionality of Japanese aesthetics, and it is named as an homage to Japanese women, reflecting the refinement that grows with age from Maiko to Geiko.

"SIEGFRIED (Siegfried Lounge Chair)"

Design | Philippe Hurel

This is a type of slipper chair (an upholstered lounge chair with a high back and short legs) that is both practical and fits well in modern or classic spaces. Designer Philippe Hurel, who enjoys drawing in a relaxed mood while listening to music alone at home, named it after "SIEGFRIED," the hero of Wagner's opera cycle "Der Ring des Nibelungen."

"SOUS BOIS (Sous Bois Side Table)"

A compact and versatile table that can be used next to a sofa or lounge chair, or as a bedside table. The name "SOUS BOIS," meaning "small trees" in French, is inspired by natural forms, particularly the inspiration derived from forests and trees. Its design, which blends modernity with hints of French classicism, integrates seamlessly into various interior styles.
