Tracing the history of Herman Miller chairs

Herman Miller has been instrumental in modernizing American residential and office spaces since the 1930s. The “Art & Science of Herman Miller Seating” exhibition, which has toured Fukuoka, Nagoya, Shiga, and Tochigi since May, finally returns to Tokyo.

This exhibition features innovative work chairs born from Herman Miller's human-centered approach to design – creating solutions to problems – alongside the material innovations and design heritage behind their development.

The exhibition includes everything from the Eames Plywood Chair, designed by Charles and Ray Eames in the 1940s through their continuous exploration of new materials and processes, to work chairs created by Herman Miller's research and development team and design partners who pursued ergonomics, sustainability, and affordability.
