A Solo Exhibition, Unique to Meguro Museum of Art in Japan
This exhibition, "George Nelson – Architect, Writer, Designer, Teacher," introduces the work of George Nelson, who embodied modern thought and pursued design principles, from various perspectives through a diverse range of exhibits and materials, including furniture, graphics, and mock-ups.
The exhibition features vintage furniture (including early production pieces and prototypes), architectural models, documentary footage from Moscow concerning the "American National Exhibition" (1959), models, and numerous other materials, as well as graphic designs and various films produced by Nelson himself, alongside other valuable archival materials.
To commemorate the first comprehensive exhibition of George Nelson in Japan, a series of events are planned, including talk sessions, workshops, art cafe talks by curators, and the fourth installment of "Design Camp," jointly organized by Herman Miller Japan and the Meguro Museum of Art. Additionally, a special exhibition focusing on Nelson's products will be held at the Herman Miller Store, and a pop-up store where Nelson's furniture and Herman Miller products can be purchased will open at the Meguro Museum of Art.
New Specification Nelson Miniature Chest Now Available
Herman Miller Japan is reissuing the "Nelson Miniature Chest," a masterpiece by George Nelson inspired by Japanese chests of drawers, with new specifications and an expanded range of 18 finishes. Orders will begin on July 15 (Tuesday).
The Nelson Miniature Chest, first unveiled in 1952 as part of the "Rosewood Group," was designed by George Nelson shortly after his first visit to Japan in 1951. Nelson stated, "I was inspired by the techniques, materials, usability, and form of Japanese chests of drawers."
Although production ceased thereafter, it was revived in 2005, with the material changed from the original rosewood to environmentally friendly rosewood-stained teak. Now, to coincide with the "George Nelson – Architect, Writer, Designer, Teacher" exhibition, the Nelson Miniature Chest is being released with a significantly expanded selection of finishes.
Cabinet finishes (6 types) are available in walnut, walnut & dark brown walnut, white ash, white ash & walnut, teak, and teak & dark brown walnut. Pulls and base finishes (3 types) can be chosen from studio white, black, and aluminum buff.
Prices start at ¥403,920 for the 6-drawer model without a base, ¥463,320 for the 6-drawer model with a pedestal base, ¥459,000 for the 9-drawer model without a base, and ¥518,400 for the 9-drawer model with a pedestal base.
