Artek was established in Helsinki in 1935 by four founders: Alvar Aalto, Aino Aalto, Maire Gullichsen, and Nils-Gustaf Haarla. With the aim of "promoting modernist culture not only through furniture sales but also through exhibitions and educational activities," the company has produced numerous masterpieces and is now known as a leading Nordic modern interior brand.

Its collection features a diverse range of renowned figures, including Finnish masters and globally active architects and designers, offering functional and clear designs in furniture, lighting, and home accessories. Artek's first directly managed store in Japan, "Artek Tokyo Store," will open in Omotesando on April 27, 2019.

The approximately 200 sqm store will showcase Artek's complete collection, from furniture, lighting, and textiles by Finnish design masters like Alvar Aalto to the latest creations by contemporary designers.

Furthermore, on April 9, 2019, the "FIN/JPN Friendship Collection" was unveiled at the Milan Furniture Fair. This special collection celebrates the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and Japan and will be publicly introduced at the Artek Tokyo Store opening. Additionally, a limited quantity of "Stool 60 Indigo Dye," featuring Finnish birch wood dyed with traditional Japanese indigo dyeing techniques, will be released. A total of seven collections, including furniture, books, and textiles in collaboration with Japanese designers, are planned for sequential release.

Alvar Aalto's philosophy, "Good design for everyone's life," truly resonates here. You are sure to find inspiration to enrich your own life.
