The A 250 e: Mercedes' First Compact PHEV Model
Mercedes-Benz Japan has added the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) "A 250 e" and "A 250 e Sedan" to its A-Class lineup, commencing sales.
Approximately 70 km of EV Driving on a Single Charge
Mercedes-Benz has introduced its first PHEV model for its compact car range.
The powertrain combines the 1.4-liter inline-4 turbocharged engine "M282," producing a maximum output of 118 kW (160 ps) and peak torque of 250 Nm, with a PHEV system. A 15.6 kWh lithium-ion battery is housed beneath the floor, allowing for motor-only driving up to 140 km/h, enabling it to be used like an electric vehicle (EV).
The electric motor alone offers a range of 70.2 km in WLTC mode. Charging is compatible with standard AC charging up to 3.2 kW and DC rapid charging up to 24 kW (CHAdeMO standard).
Six drive modes are available: "Comfort," "Eco," and "Sport," along with "Individual" for custom steering settings, "EL" for electric-only driving up to 140 km/h, and "BL" which allows the hybrid system to manage the drive mode to maintain a certain charge level.
In "EL" mode, energy recuperation can be adjusted in five stages. Additionally, an "Intelligent Accelerator Pedal" provides increased resistance at the point where further acceleration would engage the engine, alerting the driver to the limit of electric-only propulsion.
Both the "A 250 e" and "A 250 e Sedan" come standard with the interactive infotainment system "MBUX," activated by "Hey, Mercedes," and "Intelligent Drive," a suite of safety features that accurately assesses surrounding traffic conditions using multi-purpose cameras and radar sensors.
Pricing is set at 5.57 million yen for the "A 250 e" and 5.67 million yen for the "A 250 e Sedan."
