Volkswagen Japan announced five models simultaneously in Tokyo, including the full model change "Tiguan" and "Passat," and the minor change "T-Cross," "Golf," and "Golf Variant." The "T-Cross," which has undergone its first minor change, will begin accepting reservations on July 6 (Saturday), with reservations for all announced models to be accepted sequentially through September.

Volkswagen offers a diverse range of models in Japan. Five models were announced at once, aiming to present a size that suits Japanese road conditions and a variety of powertrain options.
The third-generation SUV "Tiguan," which has undergone a full model change for the first time in seven years, adopts "MQB evo," an evolved version of the traditional MQB architecture. It also incorporates advanced technology from higher-segment vehicles.
The powertrain lineup includes the "eTSI," a 1.5-liter gasoline turbo combined with a mild hybrid system, and the "TDI," a 2.0-liter diesel engine, totaling six grades.
Specifications for the 1.5-liter "eTSI" model show a maximum output of 110kW (150ps) and a maximum torque of 250Nm, with front-wheel drive. The "TDI" produces 142kW (193ps) and 400Nm with all-wheel drive.
Furthermore, the "eTSI" features an enhanced Active Cylinder Management (ACT) system, which frequently deactivates two of the four cylinders to improve efficiency, contributing to a gasoline saving of up to 0.5 liters per 100 km. It also incorporates a 48V mild hybrid system for start-up and acceleration support, further enhancing fuel economy.
In terms of design, the higher bonnet position emphasizes its SUV character and improves aerodynamic performance from 0.33 to 0.28. Safety features include the "Park Assist Plus," which automatically controls steering, acceleration, and braking, as standard on all grades.
The Passat, which also undergoes a full model change like the Tiguan, is now exclusively a wagon body. The powertrain options include the same 1.5-liter mild hybrid system "eTSI" and 2.0-liter diesel turbo "TDI" as the Tiguan, plus the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) "eHybrid" with an extended EV driving range, totaling seven grades.
The "eHybrid," a PHEV based on the "eTSI," is particularly noteworthy. It delivers a combined system output of 150kW and 350Nm, and with its 19.7kWh lithium-ion battery, it can achieve an EV driving range of over 120 km based on European WLTP measurements.
The body has been enlarged compared to the previous model, with a length of approximately 4.9 meters, equivalent to a higher segment. The wheelbase has been extended by 50 mm, improving rear seat spaciousness.
Reservations for both the fully redesigned Tiguan and Passat will begin in September, with deliveries scheduled from November onwards.
