Mercedes-Benz Japan has partially revised the equipment of its four-door coupe, the "CLS," and commenced sales.

The CLS, a four-door coupe that blends coupe style with saloon comfort, now comes standard with the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) interactive infotainment system and has been updated with the latest safety driving systems.

The most distinctive feature of "MBUX" is its artificial intelligence learning capability. Activated by the keyword "Hey, Mercedes," it offers personalized adaptation to individual users.

The voice recognition system supports numerous infotainment functions, including navigation destination input, phone calls, music selection, and message input/reading, as well as various convenience features such as climate control, heaters, and lighting.

The latest generation of safety driving assistance systems, equivalent to those in the S-Class, are now standard. Enhancements include the "Active Brake Assist" with detection for pedestrians, sudden appearances, and oncoming traffic during right turns.

Additionally, a new warning function has been incorporated for when the doors are opened while stopped, alerting to approaching obstacles from behind. If pedestrians or cyclists are detected approaching from behind at speeds above 2 km/h, a red warning light illuminates on the exterior mirror. Furthermore, if the occupant reaches for the door handle, both an audible and visual warning is issued.

Two engine options are available: a 2.0-liter inline four-cylinder direct-injection diesel turbo and a 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder direct-injection gasoline turbo.

Pricing starts at 8.42 million yen for the diesel "CLS 220d Sport," 10.95 million yen for the gasoline "CLS 450 4MATIC Sport," and 13.43 million yen for the "Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 4MATIC+." Deliveries for the AMG CLS are scheduled to begin immediately, with other models expected from January 2021 onwards.
