Peugeot Introduces PHEV Model to Flagship 508

Group PSA Japan has launched the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) model "508 GT Hybrid" and the station wagon "508 SW GT Hybrid" for Peugeot's flagship saloon, the "508." Simultaneously, the 508 lineup has been refreshed, unifying all grades under "GT." This clarifies the "Power of Choice" concept, allowing customers to select their 508 based purely on powertrain preference: gasoline, diesel, or PHEV.

Rear Seat and Luggage Space Identical to Pure Internal Combustion Models

The Peugeot 508, Peugeot's flagship model, made its Japanese debut in 2019. It was the first model to adopt Peugeot's new-generation design language.
The newly introduced PHEV model, the "508 GT Hybrid," features a 1.6-liter gasoline engine producing 180ps, paired with a 110ps electric motor. The system delivers a combined maximum output of 225ps and a peak torque of 360Nm. It utilizes a dedicated PHEV 8-speed automatic transmission, "e-EAT8," which employs a wet multi-plate clutch instead of a torque converter.
The 11.8kWh lithium-ion battery is positioned beneath the rear seats. The rear passenger space and the area above the luggage compartment floor remain identical to the pure internal combustion models.
The "508 GT Hybrid" offers four driving modes. The "Electric Mode" allows for purely electric driving at speeds up to 135 km/h, with a WLTC range of 56 km. The "Hybrid Mode" seamlessly and automatically switches between the engine and motor based on driving conditions. For a softer, more comfortable ride, the "Comfort" mode adjusts the active suspension damping while maintaining hybrid drive. The "Sport" mode prioritizes the engine for dynamic driving.
Additionally, when the accelerator is released, the system actively engages regenerative braking to improve fuel efficiency. Shifting to B mode further enhances regeneration, allowing for a driving experience similar to engine braking during deceleration.
The battery supports standard charging only. A full charge takes approximately 5 hours with a 200V/3kW connection or about 2.5 hours with a 200V/6kW connection. Furthermore, the "Hybrid" model now includes e-remote control functionality, enabling remote charging via a smartphone app and pre-conditioning of the air conditioning before entering the vehicle.
Coinciding with the introduction of the hybrid model, the 508 lineup has been consolidated to the GT grade. Previously optional Nappa leather seats are now standard. Customers can choose from three powertrains: a 1.7-liter diesel turbo (177ps/400Nm), a 1.6-liter gasoline turbo (180ps/250Nm), and the new PHEV.
The 508 also features other equipment befitting a flagship model, including front seats with adjustments for seat base length, height, angle, and lumbar support, as well as a 10-speaker HiFi audio system co-developed with French audio manufacturer Focal.
Safety features include a enhanced Safe Brake system with improved detection of motorcycles and nighttime pedestrians, Active Cruise Control, and Lane Keep Assist, all as standard.
The "508 GT Hybrid" is priced at 6,078,000 yen, with the station wagon at 6,336,000 yen. The gasoline sedan is 5,131,000 yen, the station wagon 5,389,000 yen, the diesel sedan 5,471,000 yen, and the station wagon 5,729,000 yen.
