An SUV That Fits in Multi-Story Car Parks

The "SUV 2008," marking its first full model change, has finally landed in Japan. From this generation onwards, Peugeot's four-digit SUV model names will also be prefixed with "SUV."
The body dimensions are 4,305mm in length, 1,770mm in width, and 1,550mm in height. While the length has increased by 145mm and the width by 30mm, the height has been reduced by 20mm, allowing it to fit into many multi-story car parks.
The exterior has also been refreshed. The front features a new vertical grille and a deeply sculpted bonnet, along with LED daytime running lights, a new icon for Peugeot, similar to the flagship "508" model. At the rear, three LED taillights, inspired by the lion's claw marks that have become a Peugeot signature, add a distinctive touch.
The full EV model, however, has a different design, featuring a radiator grille painted to match the body color and a "dichroic lion" emblem that changes hue depending on the viewing angle, making it instantly recognizable as an EV. Furthermore, the battery is housed beneath the seats and in the center console, ensuring that interior space and luggage capacity remain largely the same.
The SUV 2008 utilizes Group PSA's latest compact platform, "CMP." Compared to the previous model, it achieves a more stable stance with a lower, longer bonnet and wheels positioned at the four corners.
The interior is equipped with Peugeot's latest "3D i-Cockpit." The small steering wheel allows for easier viewing of the instrument cluster over the top, contributing to a compact driving position with arms held close to the body, minimizing steering movements.
The powertrain for the gasoline engine is a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder turbo engine, producing a maximum output of 130ps and a maximum torque of 230Nm. The EV's electric motor delivers a maximum output of 136ps and a maximum torque of 260Nm, equivalent to a 2.6-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine. With a 50kWh battery, it achieves a cruising range of 385km on the JC08 mode.
The EV offers three driving modes and two braking modes. Notably, the braking system includes "D" for a natural driving feel and "B" for enhanced energy regeneration, allowing for more assertive deceleration control using only the accelerator pedal.
Charging is available through three modes: standard outlet, wall box, and CHAdeMO. The CHAdeMO option can charge the battery to 80% in approximately 50 minutes. Furthermore, a smartphone app enables remote charging, checking charging status, and remotely operating the air conditioning.
All models come standard with the latest advanced driver-assistance systems. Features such as Active Safety Brake, Active Cruise Control, and Traffic Sign Information rival those found in the flagship "508" model.
Peugeot will hold the New SUV 2008 Online Launch Event on Tuesday, September 29, 2020, starting at 7 PM.Peugeot Official YouTube Channel
