MINI Unveils the "Concept Aceman," a BEV Crossover Concept Signifying the Future of MINI
MINI has unveiled the "Concept Aceman" as a BEV concept that announces a new design. It will be publicly displayed at "gamescom," opening in Cologne, Germany, on August 23, 2022.
LEDs on the Grille Surface Appeal with Light and Sound as Someone Approaches
MINI has announced a vehicle concept for the premium small compact segment. The "Concept Aceman" is a crossover-type BEV, a concept model embodying the new design language "Charismatic Simplicity." It presents a distinctive model with a new digital and interior experience, and a complete absence of leather and chrome elements.
The exterior features a style that fuses the hatchback-type MINI with the MINI crossover. The body, measuring 4,050mm long, 1,990mm wide, and 1,590mm high, utilizes a functional two-box design with short overhangs to create maximum space for occupants and luggage within a minimal footprint. It is equipped with four doors and a large tailgate, allowing seating for five people inside.
The body and glass are flush, maximizing aerodynamic performance while completely eliminating the chrome trim around the edges that was present in previous MINIs. The headlights have also evolved from the traditional round shape to a unique contour, showcasing a distinctive design.
The grille surface displays a Union Jack pattern via matrix LED units, and the surrounding grille elements illuminate. The right headlight also winks. Furthermore, animations using sensors are provided: as a person approaches, a cloud of light at the front of the vehicle brightens, signaling the car's approach. Interactive sounds, linked to the distance between the car and the user, are played through external speakers.
Adding to the expressive exterior are the colorful body colors. The stylish contrasting roof color emphasizes a youthful and vibrant character. The body paint, an icy sunglow green that changes in brightness depending on light and angle, along with neon green accents, creates a sense of depth.
Inside, chrome and leather have been thoroughly eliminated. The interior is minimalist, designed for minimal operation through digitalization, yet combines high-quality materials with friendly colors. The use of soft knitted fabric on the surfaces creates a modern and homely atmosphere, while a circular organic EL display, offering graphical visuals and sound, adds a futuristic accent.
