Concept Announced for Open Mobility Development Environment for External Creators
'AFEELA' is born from the collaboration of Sony and Honda, leading Japanese companies. Its concept is to cultivate it as a 'mobility with intelligence,' becoming a unique and cherished presence for users by pursuing new mobility possibilities beyond traditional automotive values.
Concurrently, they have put forth '3A' as the values they wish to deliver to users, derived from the initials of Autonomy (evolving autonomy), Augmentation (expansion of body, time, and space), and Affinity (cooperation with people and coexistence with society).
To realize this concept, at the special event venue for this Japan premiere, President and COO Izumi Kawanishi announced the concept of an open mobility development environment, the 'AFEELA Co-creation Program (tentative name).'
This initiative aims to provide an environment where external creators and developers can freely develop applications and services that run on AFEELA.
In the future, it is envisioned that an environment will be created for open-source development of themes for the in-car panoramic screen, e-motor sounds, and applications, with vehicle and driving data also to be disclosed to enable more unique services.
The vehicle revealed also features numerous screens for both front and rear occupants, raising anticipation for the content that will be developed in the future.
The AFEELA's body dimensions are 4,895 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,460 mm in height, with a 5-seater configuration and four doors.
Combining Sony's sensor technology with Honda's safety technologies, the vehicle is equipped with a total of 45 cameras and sensors inside and out, along with a high-spec ECU, aiming for Level 3 autonomous driving where all driving operations can be entrusted to the vehicle, such as during highway driving in traffic jams.
A new kind of mobility that evolves to the user's preferences and can be cherished. We look forward to experiencing the concept of 'AFEELA' at the 'Japan Mobility Show 2023,' where it will have its first public showing in Japan.
