Tesla Announces Domestic Pricing for Model S
Tesla Motors Japan has announced the domestic pricing for the Model S, a large-sedan that is 100% electric.

The Tesla Model S is an EV (electric vehicle) that moves its large sedan body—measuring 4,978mm long, 1,964mm wide, and 1,435mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,959mm—solely by its motor. Sales in North America have already begun, and pre-orders with a ¥250,000 down payment started last year in Japan. OPENERS has already reported on our test drive in Americaand a test drive of a Model S with domestic plates , although it was a North American specification model.
For the Japanese market, three variations are offered, differing in battery capacity and specifications. The entry model features a 60kWh battery, providing an approximate cruising range of 390km on a full charge, paired with a motor that delivers a maximum output of 225kW (302ps). This model is priced at ¥8,230,000. The next model, equipped with an 85kWh battery enabling an approximate range of 502km and a motor with a maximum output of 270kW (362ps), costs ¥9,330,000.
The performance model, also featuring an 85kWh battery but with a more powerful motor delivering 310kW (416ps) and achieving 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds, is priced at ¥10,818,000. Deliveries for all models are scheduled from April 2014 onwards, and the prices include the 8% consumption tax.
As the Model S has zero displacement, it is exempt from acquisition tax until the end of March 2015, similar to the Nissan Leaf and Mitsubishi i-MiEV. Furthermore, it is exempt from weight tax until the end of April 2015. Additionally, applications have been made for the Clean Energy Vehicle Introduction Promotion Measures Subsidy, which, if approved, will further enhance its cost-effectiveness.
All models support CHAdeMO charging. This allows for the use of rapid charging services already being deployed at parking areas and expected to become more widespread throughout Japan.
