Honda's hybrid contender, the Insight, appears at the Detroit Auto Show

Honda's Hybrid Offering, the Insight, Debuts at Detroit Auto Show

Honda has unveiled the production model of its new hybrid-exclusive vehicle, the "Insight" (North American specification), which is scheduled for release this spring. The world premiere took place at the North American International Auto Show currently being held in Detroit, USA.

Priced Below Two Million Yen?

The new Insight is equipped with a hybrid system that assists a 1.3-liter engine with an electric motor. This system, developed independently by Honda, is lightweight and compact, achieving cost efficiencies that translate into an affordable price and excellent fuel economy. Some reports suggest the Japanese market price will be under two million yen.

One of the key features of this Insight is the placement of the IPU (Intelligent Power Unit), including its compact battery, beneath the luggage compartment. This lowers the center of gravity, ensuring stable driving, while also securing a practical luggage space that is often compromised in hybrid vehicles. Unlike the first-generation Insight, which was a two-seater, the new model accommodates five passengers.

The design adopts an advanced aerodynamic form, echoing the FCX Clarity fuel cell vehicle that Honda began leasing in Japan and North America last year, evoking a sense of futuristic mobility.

Furthermore, the new Insight incorporates a newly developed "Ecolution" (Ecological Drive Assist System) to support more fuel-efficient driving. This system is designed to help drivers improve their eco-driving techniques.

The new Insight is scheduled to be announced in Japan on Thursday, February 5th, with sales commencing on Friday, February 6th.
