Concept: A Car for Deeper Family Enjoyment
The "Toyota Camatte 57 s" is a car designed with the concept of enjoying customization together as a family. This is the third installment in the series, following "Camatte Sora" and "Camatte Daichi," which were unveiled and exhibited at last year's Tokyo Toy Show 2012, and "Camatte Takumi," unveiled and exhibited at the DIY Show 2012.
The car's name, "Camatte," is derived from the Japanese word for "pay attention to me" or "play with me." The "57" signifies that the exterior is composed of 57 panels. A key feature is that these panels can be easily swapped without tools, transforming the car's appearance entirely. The final "s" stands for "touch." In essence, it means "play with it, touch it, and customize it into your preferred car by swapping out the 57 panels."
The body dimensions are 3,000mm in length, 1,440mm in width, and 1,000mm in height. With a wheelbase of 1,800mm, its size is comparable to current Japanese Kei cars. The powertrain is an electric vehicle (EV) utilizing electric motors, and it features a 3-seater configuration: one seat in the front and two in the rear.
On closed courses, such as go-kart tracks, children can drive the car, not just adults. To accommodate this, it includes features to adjust the pedal and seat positions for children. The parent, from the right rear seat, can assist with steering and braking while teaching the child to drive.
