Another Sporty Wagon Appears from Renault Sport

The Renault "Megane," which underwent a model change to its third generation in 2008, is available in three body types in its home country: coupe, hatchback, and wagon. In Japan, the coupe is the "Megane RS", the hatchback is the "Megane Hatchback GT Line," and the wagon is the "Megane Estate GT Line." All are sporty models handled by Renault Sport, which also works on Renault's competition vehicles.



For the wagon body, the Estate, a high-performance limited version called "Estate GT" was released in Japan this July. Now, Renault has announced an even higher-performance model, the "Megane Estate GT220."



The engine is a 2-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine, also found in the Megane RS. As the name GT220 suggests, the maximum output is 220ps. Maximum torque is 340Nm. Meanwhile, it features a start-stop system, achieving a fuel consumption of 7.3ℓ/100km and CO2 emissions of 169g/km, impressive figures.



The chassis is fundamentally the same as the Megane RS, but adapted for the longer wheelbase of the Estate. Like previous "Estate" models handled by Renault Sport, the suspension settings have undergone dedicated tuning. It aims to balance everyday ride comfort with driving enjoyment.



The exterior features gloss black accents in various places, including the door mirrors, diffuser, and 18-inch wheels. Inside, a steel shift knob is a distinctive feature.



Sales are scheduled to begin in December, and since Japan is included among the target markets, it looks set to be a model that Megane fans in Japan can anticipate.
