Two Models Added to Concept-i, Unveiled at Tokyo Motor Show

"RIDE" Emphasizes Universality, "WALK" for Pedestrian Areas

At the "International CES 2017," the world's largest consumer electronics trade show held in Las Vegas in January of this year,Concept-itwo new companions were introduced.

The core technology common to the Concept-i series applies artificial intelligence to "understand people" by recognizing driver emotions and estimating preferences. Combined with autonomous driving technology, this guides the driver safely and securely. Furthermore, by integrating agent technology, it can proactively offer suggestions based on the driver's feelings.

"RIDE" is a compact model with an emphasis on universality, based on the concept of "user-friendly urban mobility." It features gullwing doors, electric universal slide seats, and a joystick, pursuing usability for wheelchair users and envisioning its use in sharing services.

The three-wheeled "WALK," designed for pedestrian areas, is a vehicle that can expand one's range of activity with its compact size and autonomous driving capabilities. Its length is kept to less than a human stride, and its width to less than a human shoulder width, allowing it to rotate on the spot and travel in the same spaces as pedestrians.

By adopting a steer-by-wire system, it eliminates the need for body-weight shifting to operate, making it easy for anyone, including the elderly or women wearing skirts, to use. In the future, it is envisioned for use in sharing services in tourist areas and elsewhere.

The Concept-i series, developed as a "beloved car" for a new era, will be showcased together at the Tokyo Motor Show.
