Original Driving Dynamics Maintained by Matching Battery Dimensions to Engine Size
Announced in 1961, the JaguarE-Typewas hailed by Enzo Ferrari, founder of Ferrari, as "the most beautiful car in the world." This iconic car has now been reborn as the "E-Type Zero," an EV equipped with the latest powertrain.
Jaguar Land Rover Classic, responsible for the restoration, developed a 220kW electric powertrain for the E-Type Zero, achieving 0-100 km/h in 5.5 seconds. They claim to have limited the vehicle's output and created an optimal driving experience by seamlessly integrating the electric powertrain with the original components.
The lithium-ion battery pack is manufactured to match the dimensions and weight of the original E-Type's six-cylinder "XK engine." Without altering the vehicle's basic structure, including suspension and brakes, and maintaining the front-to-rear weight distribution, it offers the original driving feel, handling, ride comfort, and braking performance.
Furthermore, the six-cylinder XK engine was used in most of Jaguar's iconic models manufactured between 1949 and 1992, such as the "E-Type," "XK120," "Mark 2," and "XJ6." This means that all these vehicles can now be converted to EVs.
The 40kWh battery can be charged overnight using a domestic power source, providing a range of 270km. Except for the powertrain, instrumentation, and dashboard, the original specifications have been reproduced.
Tim Hanning, Director of Jaguar Land Rover Classic, commented, "Our aim in creating the E-Type Zero is to present a classic car for the future." Expectations are high for which other classic cars will be revived as EVs.
